Was in the middle of sending an email when the message appeared. If you can help I would be grateful, But in plain English please as I am not too good with technical things. Thank you.

basically, it needs the password you were given/gave when you signed up for the e-mail address. You'll need to enter that password, and make sure that you either save it to the computer's memory if its a private computer, or memorise it or write it down, cos' you'll need it everytime you send or receive emails...

If you just set up the email account something is wrong. Contact your email provider and they will walk you through it.
If you have been using this all along and it just happened then something messed it up such as Microsoft Automatic Updates. Do a system restore operation to the last known good configuration and it should clear up.
