Much I marveled this ungainly fowl to hear discpurse so painly, though its answer little meaning-little revelancy bore; for we cannot help agreeing that no living human being ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door-Bird or beats upon the sculptured bust above his chamber door, with such name as nevermore.

To start with, the man is crazy. WHen the bird innitially knocked on the door he panicked, but a normal person would have just gone and opened the door. He then asks the raven all these questions, but the bird can only say 'nevermore' so the man thinks he is doomed. The poem in itself is not 'spooky' it is just inside the mans head.

It is amazing the such an awkward bird could speak so plainly, although what it said made no sense; no one has had good things come from having a bird above his bedroom door, either birds or beasts sitting on a scuptured statue above his bedroom door, especially named "nevermore"

Quoth the raven "nevermore"

This is only part of the poem. Is it this part you don't understand or all of it? Good luck

It's about Death, the poem is called The Raven. The Raven represents loneliness...but poems are meant to be open to interpretation....so what you feel the poem is about is your opinion! It's the beauty of poetry.
