We were involved in a romantic relationship but she broke up, fearing it would drive other people away - supposed role models - people who don't her best interest at heart. She is afraid to lose them although they are just using her. She's experienced a lot of loss and grief in her young life and will usually avoid confrontation of her feelings-unless she's bringing it up. I've adjusted to not being with her (for now) but I am her friend first, and don't want to watch this type of behavior ruin the rest of her life, no matter who she's with or what she's trying to accomplish.

Wow thats a tough one. I have to tell ya fear of rejection is not anything that can be overcome. You can learn to adjust your expectations though. I think she is lucky to have someone like you who honestly cares for her as a person. The others who are only using her will someday stumble and if she is observant enough she will catch it and act accordingly. If she ever asks you what your opinion is on that matter be honest with how you feel but try not to make her feel that you are only trying to separate her from them. If she is going to lead a good life she needs to pass this trial on her own terms. It is a rough road to travel but one that must be traveled. I think the best you can do is be there for her when the ball finally drops, she will respect you for it and try not to criticize her too much.

Acceptance.

You may want to introduce her to new friends. Those who you can vouch for on the basis of sincerity.

One genuine friend is best than having a gazillion of fair-weathered ones.

Let her see the worst case scenerio in her mind. Is it really that bad? Does she not deserve real and true friends and happiness. Talk to her. Good luck.
