I used to work at Meijer's when I was 20 or so. Speaking from experiance the best solution to this problem would be to say Sir/Ma'm i'm here to help you however your attitude doesn't belong here. You can either get rid of it now or you can leave. And if you refuse to leave I will escort you out.
Say it in a firm tone and don't jump the gun and snap. You'll get results that way. I know from experiance. Just like customers you deserve respect too. Its a two way street not a one way where you get walked all over. Remember to hang in there and be firm. Be confident!

When I was 16 years old, I worked at an amusement park as a ride operator. A biker couple threatened to beat the **** out of me because I wouldn't let their older child on to a kiddie ride. There was a sign on the ride that stated no one over a certain height could ride. The limit was about 3 feet tall. They caused quite a scene. I eventually had to call security to escort them out of the park. I will never forget that as long as I live. I am 31 now, and that was one of my first jobs. It was a good lesson though.

I usually stay in on Halloween, so don't have a lot of experience with costumers. But I agree with you -- I don't like it when they make fun of me either.
On the other hand -- who wants a cart with no bottom? Costumes with no bottom -- now that is a different story.

I was working at an electronics store and a fellow came in because his satellite was not working. The dish and LNB were fine but the box was not working. He wanted me to fix it right there in the store, which we were not equipped, nor insured to do, and I told him I could send it our for repair or call the manufacturer for him.
He was furious! He wanted it fixed immediately. Things escalated, and my manager at the time came out to help me deal with the guy. Eventually he got really mad and told me that his kids were driving him crazy and he needed it fixed so that they would be occupied (great father figure). He was yelling so much I finally asked him to leave, them he said I shouldn't be surprised if he came back with his riffle and shot me.
All I wanted to to was to jump over the counter and pound him for being a looser dad, and threatening me. But i stood still and watched him leave.

That's sad that someone's having that bad a day to take it out on some one else. Just shrug it off and realize someone's having a crappy day. You will always encounter this no matter where you're working some bitter customer that's either having a bad day or is just plain "ill". Don't let it get to you...don't let it bother you, just shrug it off and realize it's not about you.
Good luck

Dang! That stinks. I hate how people can be SO rude!
When I worked at Six Flags, some people stole our tips from the window. I had to follow them throughout Six Flags so we would know who they were. They knew I was following them and they kept shouting stuff at me and calling me choice words. It really stunk and I didn't know what they would try to do to me. Luckily security came and I didn't have to deal with them anymore.
The there was waitressing...you always get rude customers when you are a server.
