how can i get my new website listed on the search engine results?

I recently started a new website, and have found that none of the search engines are picking it up except for yahoo and they say "site may not exsist" then " go directly to site".......that will take you there...or typing the url directly into the browser will take you there.......but just typing it in as www.thesummerof66.com does nothing......how do i get my site listed in the search engine results.......please help me!!...i have spent alot of time designing the site now i would like people to be able to find it..........guess im dumb.

List your site on the open directory http://www.dmoz.org/ All the search engines use Dmoz data and tend to rank them higher than the others as the data is categorized by humans and not spiders as in other sites. If your site contains nothing but affilate links then make sure you dont submit your site to dmoz as your site can be penalized as spam. It takes around two weeks to a month for your site to be listed on all search engines.

Submit your site to dmoz.org because many of the big search engines glean data from this open source project. It's the fastest way.
