You can wear just swimming trunks or you can wear a shirt. It's all personal preference. FYI -- A shirt isn't going to protect you much from sea creatures, and for me it restricts my movement, so I'd recommend going shirtless. Besides, the sea creatures are going to avoid you for the most part (unless you're bleeding and there's a hungry shark in the area...)

You dont have to wear a top, however your back may get seriously burned so it may be a good idea to anyway. Normal swimming trunk is fine, you are not going deep in the water, you are staying in the surface. Have fun :)

snorkeling doesnt require much effort, most of the time you're just wandering on the surface watching corals, starfish, ferns and some small fishes swimming around some rock formation in shallow water.
how about a rashgard bodysuit like the surfer dude wears, it will protect your skin from jellyfish stings and from sunburn too.
dont forget to wear floatation devices such as lifevest
safety first you know and then have fun

It all depends on where you are going snorkeling.Like if you're off the coast of Australia you have to avoid The DERMAL EXPOSIOUS Fish.IT'S a nasty critter. They are attracted to the bare chests of unsuspecting snorkelers.Considering the question you asked I must say DON'T FORGET YOU'RE SNORKEL!
