ok, thanks in advance for ur help. the thing is i'm connected in an open access wireless network but sometimes, although it is connected and all, it doen't open neither firefox nor IE. the message that appears is the same as the one that appears when i'm not connected. how can i be connected and yet not have access? this only happens sometimes, most of the time it functions properly.

How much control do you have over this network? If you are just using the network, and if it is a linksys network, there are times when it shuts off the Internet access. At that point you will have no Internet access until it is reset.

If this is not your private network then someone is resetting it and then you have access.

Is this a possibility or do you have control over this? If it is yours and somehow it resets itself I would like to know how because mine will not do that.

Happens to me all the time. I just open the connection status box to the support tab and click 'Repair'. It usually works then. If you dont' know what I'm talking about it should be the little network connection icon in the system tray.

sounds like it could be either a dhcp issue or a dns problem. When you connect go to start->run and type cmd. Once a prompt comes up type ipconfig. Look for you wireless device and make sure it has an ip address, a dns server, and a gateway ip address. once confirmed type ping (and the gateway ip address). This confirms solid connectivity to the access point.

No I can't explain it but I get the same thing. I have to disconnect and then re-connect. That always sorts it out.
Sorry.
