Because she was a very important part of your life for a long time.
You have kids with her so you think about her everytime you look at your kids.
It is something that takes time.

It's called love. You can't just turn that off because you no longer are together. You sound like you have deep feelings for her. Just keep in mind the reason why you seperated to begin with. It's easy to sit and think of all the good times, but you have to remember the bad as well. You should go out more and try to meet people. I'm not saying go find a woman. You need a friend. Good luck.

because she is and was a very important part of your life. She is the mother of your children and to some degree you will always care about her and she will care about you. You have a history with her, but chances are you know that she has probably moved on and you should too. If you know that you all are better off apart then you know if you were together again it wouldn't be any different that time either. I think the key will be for you two to still have a good communication link and remain good co-parents for your children.

I hate to say this, but probably because you are weak, because you have low self-esteem. You should change that, and be proud to be alone, and be without her.
Actually I could be wrong - if it has been 10 years since you've broken up then what i said above is probably true. If not, just give yourself time, you'll get over it.

No avoiding the stages my friend. First you you are in denial , then you get mad and then you accept it. How long you stay in these stages varies but you will experience them to get over the relationship.

You are the only one with the true answer/s as to why you can't get over your ex, mate.
Unless you are prepared to let go, you will continue with your past.
