or abroad are far too skinny. I always wanted to know what these young women eat daily to stay so thin. I am also very concern about our young girls who want to be like them that they almost kill themselves to do so. I know modelling has been going on for many years and that they like to follow the old fashion way of doing things which is the skinnier the better so i am asking all people 18 of age and over what their thoughts are about this subject thank you

well, if you ask me, I do believe they are far too skinny. I'm really fearful of that because it will drive many teenage girls to starve themselves for that look. My sister did that and she lost a lot of weight. Thanks to God, she came to her sense and started eating again and now she's at a normal weight. I perfer a girl in normal weight, not skinny to the point where she's nothing but skin and bones. God bless u.

Yes many of the fashion models are at an unhealthy level of thinness. When your body gets under a certain percent of body fat they may even stop having periods and it can effect fertility.

Most weight reduction diets that are doctor recomended require you to eat at least 1200 calories a day. It is likely that many of these girls do not meet that requirment, and are possibly malnurished as a result. This can cause many physical ailments as well as "not so beautiful" hair loss, and nail problems.

Anorexia is a disease where people see themselves as heavier than they are, and they are unable to control their dieting due to a mental condition. These models may or may not suffer from this, but many troubled young girls have a psychological condition which causes this behavior in an attempt to live up to that standard and control their bodies.

Modeling as an industry has not always favored the extremely thin girl. As fashions change so does the ideal. In the 20's the look was thin and boyish. Then in the 40-50s the look was full and womanly. (think Marylin). Then later in the 60's the waif model came out. Later in the 90s a bustier version of the super model and the waif were both in style.

How is a girl supposed to keep up? Love the body your in.

I'm ecstatic that Italy( I think, or maybe it was Spain) took the BMI (body mass index) of the models to determine if they were healthy. They ended up turning away 20% or something of them b/c they were too thin. I thought that was a great step towards showing our youth what a healthy person looks like. Some models are FAR too thin, and are not healthy. I doubt most of them could maintain any kind of stamina in a physical activity. They have no muscle mass and you can see their bones. It can look quite disgusting. It's also up to parents to let their children know that the modeling industry is not the "real world" and the majority of people do not look like that naturally.

I think many models look sick they are so thin.

While it may be a 'bad role model' the last thing in the world we need is for some do-gooder in the government trying to pass a law.

Government is evil. All government. The only laws we need are LESS LAWS!

I don't think the Victoria's Secret models are too thin. I kinda like them.

I can understand the designers wanting the models that skinny as it makes it easier to fit them. but, in reality very few people actually look like that and can't wear that kind of clothes. I wish they used more realistic models, more representative of what the average woman looks like. The models would be healthier and happier, I am sure, if they didn't have to starve themselves.

i heard recently that models are being fired for being too skinny or having eating disorders so hopefully we will see more healthy models that represent out true self images.
