I am confused with terminology such as ISP, Domain, File transfer protocol for uploading. Any simple advice or links would be appreciated.

Here is a step by step bit of help

1. Idea
2. Check the domain name availibilty . www.ukreg.com
3. If you are going to do it yourself ... Get FrontPage or Macromedia Fireworks / Dreamweaver.
4. Find a host .... 123-reg.co.uk
5. Make sure you have the site prepared with search engines in mind. Use www.submitexpress.com
6. Make sure it is submitted to the major search engines.

Don't forget to sign up for your Google Ad-Sense account so you can make some money with your blog. There are links from blogspot.com to setup your Google account. It's a great one stop shop for learning about the Internet and possibly making some money while you are at it.

Your ISP is who provides your Internet connection. Domain is the actual web address (e.g. http://www.yahoo.com). To upload, your site, pictures, etc. you will need an FTP program...I suggest AlFtp, it's free and works great. You will also need a web server to host your files, I recommend PageWaiter...they are good and cheap.
