You have to run FDisk first...boot to the floppy disk and type fdisk and create a primary partition that is the entire drive. Then reboot and you will be able to format it then.

Have to format the drive.

If you're running Windows XP, insert the installation disk in your DVD/CD drive, reboot to BIOS, adjust the load order to DVD/CD drive/Hard Drive/Floppy, save the BIOS setting, reboot and press F5 to get into Windows installation mode. From there setup your OS partition for C:\ (strongly recommend NTFS format). Use quick format if you're in a hurry. Cancel out of the menu if you wish not to install Windows.

Other format types require using a manufacturer format disk (Western Digital and Seagate have the utility to download from their sites), FDISK, or an aftermarket partition software. The Window quick method is a heck of a lot faster.

You are booting fROM the wrong disc meaning if your bios is set to boot from your hard drive first then you get this error so in you Bios settings put the floppy first or even the CD/DVD rom first(if you want to boot from xp). Then you fdisk (partition if you want) and format "C"
