you witnessed a gang of teenagers with sticks and bars beating up one person quite badly in the street, there are no police or other people around, there are like 10 of them and they are all around 17...... would you put yourself at risk and step in or walk away and call the police hoping that they will get there on time......

I think anger would get the better of me and I'd fcuking flip out in a violent kamikazi "come and get some raging ninja" kind of rage, or if driving deffinatly play a game of white van man skittles with the vicious little b*****ds.

I would go call the police as quickly as I could. I know for a fact I couldn't fight off those losers & help the victim. I would probably make it worse for them. They would get excited that they would have someone else to beat (me) & beat the other person that much more too. Besides, if I was over there trying to be a hero in that way, then the police might never be contacted in time for them to catch these people in the act or just catch them at all, to question them, so that they might prevent it from happening to someone else by the same people. & if the police were never called the victim & possibly the second victim (me) might be killed or might be left to die all alone. If the police were called they could get medical attention on the way & take care of the bad guys, hopefully.

Crap as this is, this actually happened to me, and I took the easy option of buggering off round the corner and calling the cops on my cell. I've had the crap beaten out of me a lot in my life (last time was ten years ago and I have the metal ankle to show for it), but the first time I ever WITNESSED a mugging was in the park just across from my flat - gang of guys beating some other poor sod with a cricket bat. I hung about long enough to see the plods arrive though. Not good.

well, sense I'm a girl I probably would walk way and call the police,because I read an article that said that if a guy( even a weak) guy got one good hit at you it could kill you.guys are always going to be stronger then us girls.good Question.
now if I was a Strong guy with a bat or something then I'd call the polices, jump right in,and pray that the force would be with me.

I would call the police, find a bar that I could wield with ease and step up. I might not be able to defeat them, but I know I'd cause damage, even if minimal.

I'm 5'5", weigh about 120lbs, in a size 4. Not looking for the sympathy factor, but can you see me trying to confront 10 idiots with weapons? (Starting to get a mental picture of me then getting my *** whooped?)
Thank GOD for technology, cause if I had to go to a pay phone, that teenager would be S.O.L.!
I wouldn't mind going to the police station afterwards, as a witness and giving a full statement.

Here in NYC thats kinda common. Usually in situations like that the person must have done something to get beat like that. Not saying that it never happens to innocent people, just that likely there are some kind of street politics, or bad dealings involved.
Not too many become involved.

personally i'd like to think i'd go straight in and stop them. but unless i was in the situation i wouldn't know. i'd probably get my mobile out and ring the police as i was approaching them while making them aware the police were coming in hope they'd all flee.
wait for police and maybe ambulance if needed, tell cops the crack and that's ma good deed of the day done.
