I have no idea, but if you think there are whiny butts out there now, wait until they have to get off their bums and put on a uniform. We are meeting the recruitment numbers now, so I do see a need for the draft.

There is a newly elected "Demonrat" president? Must have slept through it.

But to ANSWER your question, I would say No that would be an extremely unpopular move. Although judging by our under-manned forces in Iraq & Afghanistan I am beginning to wonder if the government needs new incentives to radically increase the amount of recruits.

Hillary will be much more likely to introduce new tax's and social programs than the draft. The disgraceful tobacco tax she helped formulate when her embarrassing husband was in charge put an additional (and considerable) burden on a class of people already well down the economic ladder, while doing nothing to reduce the terrible dependence smokers already must deal with. The glut of new money captured by that tax saved that crowd of socialists posing as democrats from exposure as piss poor managers of our money, and is now one of the most oppressive and disgraceful examples of taking from the working class in our times. Ask any of that bunch where that money is being spent, and marvel at the non answer you'll get. It is a blatant misuse of authority to force a group or class of people to bear a grossly disproportionate burden of our bloated government just because that group or class is victim to an unpopular addiction. Those peoples money does NOT go into any real effort or program to help them beat or even reduce their addiction. Indeed that would defeat the very purpose of the tax, to support programs that would otherwise not be acceptable to the public. I don't smoke but I do believe the experts who have said for a hundred years that tobacco addiction was harder to break than heroine. I'm also a democrat (a real democrat) but it distresses me to see my party being more and more steered in the direction of socialism. The draft may, in light of world affairs, be nessesary in the not too distant future, and since the Dems will almost certainly be in charge soon, it will be them by default that will implement it. And yes I am most assuredly anti Hillary, we have many strong and honorable leaders in our party, and to nominate a candidate because it's a woman will make us weaker in the long run. We are already percieved as the party of freeloaders lead by rich career politicians, despite the work of such men as the innovative Roosevelt, the selfless Carter and the much underrated Johnson. The last thing we need now is another Clinton over us. Sorry to go off on that tangent, but the question required that kind of answer.

I don't think so, Bush's quagmire will not be easily fixed. Maybe this administration should solve it's problems BEFORE the next administration comes in. I suggest sending the 500,000 needed to win this war, and get it done. It will be interesting to see if a democrat gets elected...it will mean that the people have lost faith in the republicans to protect us, and that was the only platform the republicans have had for the last two elections

No. We will get out of the hopeless war in Iraq and try to pay off all the debts this groups of idiots piled up. Maybe we can even win back the trust of our allies. Show some respect. Or are you trying to divide this country into a Shiite and Sunni hatefest?

Only the US Congress can institute a military draft. The President can ovbiously offer up the idea for Congress to consider.

I personally hope that a president will never repeat that after seeing how bad it played out amongst the American people and doubt they would because politics are all about making people like you, but who knows

I don't know if he/she would introduce a draft, but I wouldn't be surprised that after a couple of years of frolicking down the slippery slope of appeasement to terrorists, we would all be given prayer mats and instructed to pray to Allah three times a day.

I wouldn't think so, although I would at least hope not. The person who keeps trying to push for the draft is Wrangle (D-NY) However, he may be pushing for it in order to later pass the blame off as a "Republican" war so that's why it happened. If that's not his motive for it, perhaps he ought to be committed to a phyciatric evaluation.
