The purchase of any computer is dependant on what you want to do with it. The ratio best/money with the limitation of: Mac Laptop is a question that you have mostly solved. But you have left out the needed variables concerning what you want to do with it.

Depends on how you plan on using your portable. If you do high end work & video editing you would want the macbook pro. If you use it primarily to browse the internet, listen to music etc a macbook will suffice. Macbooks are sold primarily to home users where the macbook pro is for professional use.
Repairs can be expensive on mac computers so be careful if looking to buy used. The applecare protection plan can be purchased anytime within the 1st year of initial purchase & is well worth it.
