I've heard stories of people driving the whole distance from South America to Canada. It can be done. You can go right through Mexico and all the way through.

It'll take a lot of time, though. Contact various embassies to see if you'll need a visa. And leave a lot of time. I hope you can do it. I want to join you.

If you want to go from the Aleutian islands to Tiera del Fuego that is more miles than from Texas to Venezuela so the part about how far can't be answered.

It is drivable (including going through Mexico) if you are equipped with the right paperwork, a dependable car, spare parts in case of a failure, a cell phone or satellite phone, and a lot of common sense concerning security and auto repair. Consult an organization like the AAA or CAA to get maps and guidebooks.

I agree with, and like "Rich Z"'s answer, and want to add, there are VERY dangerous areas in Central America you will go through, mostly in the jungles, but none the less, be EXTREMELY careful! A lot of guerrilla warfare and drug trade down there! :(
