Depends on the cause. Some things are easy to do.

1. Can't get to sleep, but once you do you sleep fine? Take a daily Calcium suppliment two hours before you want get to sleep. Calcium is a muscle relaxant, and it calms you for sleep.

2. Can get to sleep but you wake up in a couple of hours? Take the Calcium suppliment right at bed time.

3. Your a light sleeper and every little thing seems to wake you? Get a white noise generator (it looks like a small clock radio, and you get them from electronic stores like Radio Shack. Their pretty cheap). You can get them that make a couple of different noises like falling rain, a passing railroad train, or tv static. Sometimes just running a small window fan in your bedroom will work for white noise.

If these don't help you might want to talk to a doctor. He'll know more.

Try taking some melatonine not sure if I spelled that right. It's a pill you take that helps produce the chemical that makes you tired. There is still research on it and it's long term affects on younger people, but taken in moderation, I can't see how it could hurt considering it's a natural chemical your body already makes.
Maybe talk to your Dr. about this first you can get it over the counter with out a perscription.

Dark Chocolate!!! Its good for you, and if it makes you tired, like it does me! Just one peice of like a Special bar! Just enough to make you tired, not wired, you know.. Or you could buy those over the counter, "Sleep-eze" I used to take those when I worked at one of the busiest stores in Long Beach, at night, because, I just couldn't shut my brain down, after my insane day at work!! They work great, but, they do make you feel a bit "Groggy" in the morning, just until you've had your coffee anyway.. Good-Luck, and hope you catch-up, on some real good sound sleep!!!

Go talk to your doctor because there's treatment options out there for you and if a medicinal treatment is appropriate since there's four different kinds of medications used to treat sleep disorders Rozerem, Lunesta, Ambien and Ambien CR. Only your doctor can say whether a sleeping pill will help you and if you're put on one don't depend on it to help you sleep it's only there to help your body go to sleep as naturally as possible. Too much medicinal interference will cause problems.
