I cant afford that and so I just will have to do without the books I didnt buy! I am ranting, Im sorry.

Well, in my opinion, books for the collegiate level are really expensive... because the authors/writers of that certain book are way better writers and more educated than those with the textbooks for high school students. Some complicated subjects for instance, Marketing, need someone who is highly experienced in MArketing or someone who became successful because of his marketing philosophies and theories. Ergo, these kinds of people would require a high price/fee for its knowledge if they were to be chosen as the writers of the book. The contents, the cover, publisher and the highly-experienced writers contribute to the cost of the book.. well, if you really can't afford buying new books, why don't you just borrow from your friends or from your school library? Or you can surf in the Internet to find information...simple. That's what I call resourcefulness.... hope it helps..

Dont be sorry you arent ranting and Im with you 100 percent. I try to get books from friends or from used book web sites on the net. Thats the best option. And the reason it is expensive is because the books that colleges require are usually written by the best professors or drs of that field so they may charge what ever they want. Its like buying gucci or prada its a name brand you follow?

Good question! Go to the following websites to find discounted textbooks-you'll need the ISBN number of the book you want. Its that number on the barcode of the book.

www.half.com
www.textbooks.com
I used these sites and found many books for almost half price. Good luck and remember, education may be expensive, but ignorance, well you know!

Basically, its supply and demand. Who else is going to buy them? They cost alot for a few reasons... because they're "text books" and the quality is much higher than other book types. Because the information becomes obsolete and updated material is sometimes neccessary.
Buy used ones, they'll even have notes in them sometimes. And when you're done with them, you can sell them again.

i think that it's a conspiracy. the people who make the books pay the school a ton of money for the school to use the book. then they make it and then make a new one for the next year . . . so people can't use the old one and they make more new book profits. i lived in a rich college town in high school and went dumpster diving at the campus at the end of the school year. it was great

Because they know that they have us by the short hairs...

Do what i do-- buy them used off of ebay or other textbook websites. Usualyl you pay about 1/2 the price and if you sell them back on ebay, you can get almost all your cash back (if not a profit)

Because they believe that their books are the best, thus charging us alot. My pre-law books cost me an arm and leg also. I looked for used books in good condition. It helped save me some money. Try and see if you can find ones. Good Luck!!

for profit margin purposes esp. it goes through the shop. if u have an agent in between this help jack up the cost too. thus better for u to buy used text books instead.

you really don't have to buy all textbooks. you can always get one from the library. i have been in college going on two years(about 48 credit hours), and i have only bought two text books(talk about penny pincher).lol
