I just killed a female black widow spider that was crawling on my son's leg. (OMG i know) That got me thinking.. if there is one, are there many more? I know they arent like cockroaches; if you have one, you have a hundred you dont see, but this was a female. When do spiders lay eggs?

I am completely freaked out. Thank goodness it didnt bite me or my son!

Just to be on the safe side I would set off one of those bug bombs in the rooms of your home while you are gone and then air out the house. These usually kill everything.

Most spiders are usually solitary, including the widow. One reason is she eats her mate after they mate if she can catch him. They usually lay their eggs near their web (home) so that when the babies hatch they can eat her for their 1st meal. Don't worry about it too much. I've never heard of a black widow infestation. Nonetheless, you may want to dust the area with Sevin (or Eight by Bonide) just to make sure. Both are safe for indoor use.

Not knowing where you live, it's a good assumption to think there are more.
I would consider hiring an exterminator - if just once. Once they start to come inside, it gets much harder to keep up with them.

We lived in Nevada, had black widows by the dozens but only outside :)

I'm not the best authority in the world but I've seen ONE on many occasions, but I've never seen two in the same year.

Most spiders drop multiple babies. Now you have made them angry by killing momma. Sleep with your mouth shut.
