I am almost 40 wks preg. (on 9/20) and While at my weekly visit yesterday they noticed I had protien in my urine & elevated BP (also headaches & vision disturbance) - so they did blood work & it came back that I have PREECLAMPSIA. Therefore, if I don't labor between today & tomorrow they have me scheduled for a C-SEC on thursday morning. Has anyone been diagnosed w/this late in pregnancy & what has been your experience & outcomes for both yourself & the baby. I guess I'm just a little scared/nervous cuz I wasn't expecting this ... thanks for your answers.

It was discovered in me around 34 weeks and I was put on bedrest. I was induced at 37 weeks and had a perfectly healthy boy. And let me tell you I was SICK!!!! In fact the doctor was very concerned about me having seizures. Luckily I didn't have this. I ended up with a Csection but not because of the preclampsia. I would just be careful until Thursday. Stay laying down for the majority if not all of the day with your feet propped on a pillow. The more movement you do the higher your BP will be and the more protein that can be in your urine.

Good luck! And I'm sure everything will be fine. Congrats on your new miracle!

I had preeclampsia late in my pregnancy. Try not to eat to much salt or stuff with lots of sodium in it. I to had to get a c-section. Don't get a spinal tap. If I had to do it all over again I would get knocked out before a spinal. The baby is fine they are worried about you. You can get kidney damage if they wait to long. Is this your first? Afterwards my thyroid was enlarged. I don't know if it was from the spinal which I think it was. Cuz I felt my neck get tight when coming down from the spinal. Also I ended up with a rash I believe it's called Pupps. Supposely it is supposed to go away in the first year. Well it's been 7 months now and I still have it. Also plan on getting a lot of blood taken cuz they have to watch that closely. A nurse told me in the hospital most case of preclampsia end up in C-sections. C-section isn't that bad. My doctor glued me shut and it looks great. Don't worry about a thing they are professionals and I'm sure you will be fine. Good luck and congrats!

I had preeclampsia at about 30 weeks in pregnancy. I am a diabetic as well so they didnt mess around. My son was born completely healthy by c-section. I had blood pressure problems until my son was about 6 mos hold, but now there are no problems. You are almost done, so it shouldn't be a problem. Try not to stress, as this can increase your bp. Good luck, and hang in there.

Preclampsia is actually really common father on in pregnancy, more so than earlier.

Youll be fine, and so will the baby. If they had any cause for concern they would have done a c section then and there.

Use yoru breast pump for an hour or so a couple times a day, the stimulation will help enduce labor.

Without reading the preceding answers, I will tell you of my experience. Upon experiencing the symptoms you relate, I went where I could get good quality protein foods. (I left my neglectful husband.) Within 3 days of consuming protein foods for three meals a day, my symptoms had disappeared, and since I had left my former area where my doctor practiced, I had to either cure myself, or succumb to the vagaries of the standard medical practices dominant at the time. I chose to eat at each meal: Eggs, tuna, cheese, milk, beans of all kinds, bacon, pork chops, roast beef, ground sirloin, ham, along with the usual green and yellow vegetables, salads, fresh fruit, etc. You do what you need to do. I knew from my studies of Anthropology that protein in the urine can mean that one is not consuming enough of the foods one needs to maintain tissues properly. In areas where starvation is prevalent, this is common. Pregnancy taxes the female body in this way, so that "eating for 2" can mean not just eating more, but eating better quality foods with some high-quality protein at each meal. Good luck and best wishes.

I didn't have it with my own pregnancy, but I know women who did.
Don't stress!! This happens to many women. The doctors are taking the right precautions. Relax and just prepare yourself for your new baby. Take a bath and sit back and relax. Sounds to me like you'll only get two more nights of rest for a while...sleep my honey sleep :) Do it while u can.
Don't lose out on precious sleep because of this. Everything will be just fine. :)
Congrats on the bebe!

I had this with my daughter who was born on sept.21th 2001
I was found to have preeclamsia 1 day before my due date and was put into the hospital so me and the baby could be monitored.
they decided to give me the best chance possible for a normal birth so they tried inducing labour. both times it did not work so they rushed me in for an emergency c-section because babies heart rate was dropping.; everything went fine and my daughter was born on sept 21th at 9:35pm weighing 9pounds 5 ounces.
and perfectly healthy. so ask about being induced it may work for you.

It doesn't matter how your baby is born...just so long as your baby gets here. And with Preeclampsia the sooner the baby is delivered the better it will be for both of you.

I had it with my first son and was on bed rest in hospital for two weeks before I had him. Everything was fine and it all cleared up after he was born with no ill effects to either of us. Dont worry..it is a pretty common thing...just relax and enjoy your baby when it gets here. Good luck!

That's when preeclampsia happens. Its imperative that you deliver quickly if that is the case. It is dangerous to both you and the baby. Hang in there...they are aware and are watching you...
