Just like everything in life it can be improved. Slot(-) screw heads slip easier than philips(+) they make a square head and a star or torx type that slip less than a phillips(+)

Every country in the world uses the metric system although many products are still manufactured in common sizes for public use. The metric system was devised by French scientists in the late 18th century to replace the confusing collection of units then in use. The goal of Metric's, was to produce a system that did not rely on a collection containing number variety, and to use the "Decimal System rather than Fractions".

I read your question a few times and i think I've got it now, apologies if I haven't. I think you are asking why don't we just have one standard for screw heads, either slotted, cross head ( or pozidrive would be the third )
Well, I for one want to have cross and slotted. Slotted screws are used where the head is visible, much nicer looking that cross head. Cross head are great for power driving and general work.
If you did lots of DIY ( to a reasonable quality ) they you would struglle with just the one type.
