Walking forward or backward?

A non-racer walks about 4 to 5 miles per hour. Take an average of about 4.5 mph.

1139 miles / 4.5 mph = 252.8 hours or a little over 10 1/2 days (without stopping). With breaks for meals and potty and rest, about 3 times that.

Walking backward usually take about twice as long.

An average healthy person can walk about 50 kilometers (31 miles) per day. At that rate, it would take about 37 days days to walk from Omaha to Baltimore.

If you have the time, it's a great way to get in shape.

An average human might walk 30 miles in a day, but only soldiers and athletes and very fit people could keep that up day after day. 20 to 22 miles would be plenty for most of us, so eight weeks is a good round answer.
