A friend told me that this can cause ingrowing hairs and over a long period is not good for the skin. However she isn't a beautician and has also never had anything waxed in her life!

Anyone out there got any info on this?

If you wax any part of the body on a regular basis then you can get ingrowing hairs( where the new hair growing gets trapped under the skin)
A good way to avoid this is to use something coarse like a loofa on a regularly while bathing or showering, easy on legs but difficult in more intimate areas

I think that depends on how sensitive your skin is. For example I am waxing my legs for almost 10 years and I am having ingrowing hairs almost every time. When I first had my belly area waxed I got pimples.

Maybe your skin is not sensitive like mine and u won't have any problems with wax. You have to try it and see how it will go.

If you haven't done this before it would be wise to go a professional beautician.

Good luck.

I have had my legs waxed in the past but it doesn't seem to agree with me. It seems to make my hair follicles stick out and I get little red bumps on my legs. I have an epilator (shaver that pulls hairs out like waxing) and I have used that on my legs but I tend to get the same problem, so I just shave my legs now. It may be that my skin is just sensitive and if I persevered it'd be alright. It can definitely cause ingrowing hairs as I've had them myself, I just get them out with tweezers though and it's fine. Maybe you should just go into a salon and get advice from the experts.

No, there are no long term effects. When you have your legs waxed you take off a layer of skin, but that soon grows back. Apparently the more you wax, the slower the hair returns.

It depends purely on your waxing regime.... If you do it yourself, ensure that you use a good exfoliator and an intense moisturiser to stop ingrown hairs. Also leave a good amount of time between waxes, otherwise your skin may become sensitive and irritated by the wax

In delicate areas (bikini line) you can get ingrown hairs, but this is mainly from the dry skin and because the hair follicle is distorted. This can be sorted out by moisturising regularly in between waxing. Some people say the growth lightens, can't say I agree but it does get less painfull. Never mind your friend she is just afraid to try herself so she wants you to stay chicken like her!!

Yes, it can cause ingrowing hairs. But to avoid this exfoliate regularly and moisturise well.

You can get in-growing hairs, but to aviod this exfoliate and you can use a product called 'Tend' this will clear up any ingrowing hairs anywhere on you.

NO! It's the best way. You don't have to shave everyday cause it comes back only in a month or so. I have my face, underarm, waxed. it's too painful for the pubic area.

Yes
If long term waxing is stopped, the hair that grows back is thick coarse and black, it also grows quite long
