It isn't necessary unless you have to speak English in your job. Then it becomes a qualification necessary for employment. However, in order to communicate on the job, you should learn English so you can do your job well. There are too many people from other countries that do not speak English or do not speak it well, and they perform very poorly on the job. So if you have pride in your work, you should learn the language regardless of your employment choice.

I think that english is required in all parts of the world, since it is an international language? What language do they use in UN General Assembly, IMF, all the meetings? English. This shows a great importance of English. Especially when you do business, you would be challenged to work with people all around the world, from China, America, Asia Pacific, et cetera. What language would you use? English again. So, yes I believe is a very important asset in today's world.

If you want to go for a III or IV category jobs in Indian Govt than English is not must. For II and I category although it is not must as a rule but Govt expect you to understand English at that level. Otherwise your chances of selection are very very less. Whereas in private sector , for all good companies and jobs it is a must to know English.

English is the language used in India to help people to understand each other, due to the the different sub languages that are spoke in that country.

Any second / third language is a plus for any given job in any country.

If you work in a mainly english part of the world then ya you better know english better than just as a second language. Depends on the main language where you want to work. You need to work harder on your english. I wouldn't talk to you if I needed help. I'd ask for someone who understood me and I understood them.

I agree...if you plan to come to the states and work...you need to speak english...
But you need to know the language in whatever country your in....that your planning to work.
In India...english isnt the main language...then no i dont see the point of knowing/speaking it...if your not in the correct origin of the country which uses it...
