When they say use alcohol, don't use beer, it seems to leave a residue. Mixed drinks don't work so well either, and if it's an LCD screen, the little umbrella could poke a hole in it. For GLASS monitors, I use 70% rubbing alcohol that you can buy anywhere. I would be a little more cautious with and LCD screen though. Maybe look for a lower concentration alcohol. Actually, I also use alcohol prep swabs, you can buy a 100 count box for maybe 2 bucks. Rubbing alcohol only has alcohol and water in it, nothing to leave a residue.

A glass monitor you can use a good glass cleaner to get rid of those greasy finger marks. An LDC display is delicate. Go to a specialist shop and buy the LCD wipes. They're very good. Keep your monitor in top shape by dusting it often, keeping fingers off the display and get a cover for it.

Most computer shops sell tubs of wipes that are designed specially to clean computer monitors because they're non-toxic, anti-static and safe. They're fairly cheap as well, I paid about £2 for the last pack that I bought.

most professional wipes use a weak alcohol solution, as it quickly disperses and doesnt leave any residue. I also use a lint-free cloth to polish the screen after the wet wipe

Endust for Electronics spray or towelettes. Can be found at Wal-Mart and most grocery stores. Anti-Static and completely safe to clean monitors.

To clean glue and other grime from the monitor, use lighter fluid (Naphtha) -- please turn off the monitor when using it, though. ;)

A damp shammy like you use for your car and some kitchen roll. Best thing for all glass, including specs.

I use glasses cleaner and a glasses cling cloth for my CRT (non-flat) monitor.

For flatscreen (TFT or LCD) monitors I would just use a glasses cloth, no liquid.
