I have managed to burn plastic to the grill element of my new oven, which is now stuck fast. How can I remove this without damaging my oven.

If the plastic won't snap off while it is cold and brittle, try warming it up (not too much) until it is pliable and scrape it off.

I can think of 3 ways

1. Remove as much plastic as you can, then put your oven on clean mode, assuming it has one. The oven cleans itself by burning things to ash.
2. Remove the grill element and heat it on an open flame until the plastic is burned off.
3. Remove the grill element, use laquer thinner to disolve the plastic, thoroughly dry the grill element before putting it back in your oven.

I take no responsibility for any damage suffered by taking this or any other advice I offer. Proceed at your own risk.

A product called "Goof Off". Home Depot sells it for sure. Just make sure you don't have any animals, or children in the room with you. and make sure you have the fan on above your stove, if you have one. Open all the windows in your house for about a half hour to an hour depending on how much there is. ALWAYS wear good rubber gloves (not the cheap, see through kind) when using this product. Just dab it onto a paper towel or cotton ball and generously dab the area and let it sit for about 2 minutes, then scrape what you can off with something, then rub the rest off by hand. It's safe on clothing so don't be afraid to get a little on you, just make certain that it doesn't come into contact with your skin and that you put the clothing in the wash when you're done. Then wash the element with soap water if you can get it out of the oven. If nothing else you could always avoid the potent smells and just buy a new element.

I would think with great difficulty. Try putting the grill on so that the plastic actually burns off. Might be a bit smelly, but I recon it should work. Good luck.

Heat the grill and wipe it when it is still hot. Though it takes a lot of time this works.

Heat the plastic gently and remove.

Pull off what you can, then turn it to full heat for about ten minutes, it will smell and smoke a bit, but will eventually turn to ash which you can brush off with a fine wire brush.

It might sound odd but have you tried freezing it off?. It shouldn't effect the element.
