if the hot water pipes going to the radiator's is exposed, how old does that make the house? When did they staert putting the pipes in the walls?

in NJ, deeds to not show history of structures, only lot sizes etc. so, no town/country records show ages.

Early 1900's. You can check the age of your house by going to the town hall and researching the title history there.

Go to the county court house, to the Recorder of Deeds office. You can do a search of records to find out when the house was built. A house could be 100 years old before being retrofitted.

Having exposed pipes usually means a hot water heat system was added after the house was built. However, when these systems were first used, around 1910, pipes were often left exposed inside of rooms to keep them from freezing. Back in the old days, there was no insulation available to protect pipes in wall cavities.
