Narn i Hin Hurin (Of the Children of Hurin) has been published in part in J. R. R. Tolkien's book "Unfinished Tales". Now his son Christopher has finished the book and will release it in the spring. Putting Jackson's movies aside, what are your feelings on this new addition to the literature of Middle Earth, and will you read it?

I will take a look at it, but I am concerned about writing styles

It's just a new evolution in a tale which has gripped millions, first through the books and then through the movies.
It is worthwhile to read the newest book, but to be aware that it is an extension of the fantasy and not the original.
What harm could come from reading it? Tolkein Sr. was a man, a writer, a creator of a fantasy which resonates with most of us. His son inhabits the same world we do and is no less capable of immersing himself in the fantasy as his father was or as we are.
I say read on, enjoy the ride. I hope he doesn't disappoint. I think his book is just an extension of the fantasy, we shouldn't be looking to make saints or demons of anyone real.

Don't get me wrong. If anyone else should be able to right a sequel it should be his son. After all, the Hobbit evolved from bedtime stories that were told to Crhistopher by his father.

I think that WHY it is coming out is the problem. He is probably being pressured by hollywood to create a sequel to line their pockets with more money. I think I would have been more entusiastic if it was released ten or twenty years ago.

I hope to eventually read it after I'm finished with books such as The Lost Tales and The Simerillion.

I probably will, just out of interest. The thing is though, even if he has stayed faithful to the style of writing, it doesn't necessarily mean that he will be as good of an an author as his Dad.

I wish him well.

Sure...as soon as I reread all of Tolkien's books. It's been about, oh, only seven years...
