The Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron announced the selection of Capt. Nicole Malachowski as the first female pilot in the 52 years of the Thunderbirds flying team. Malachoski, a 1996 Air Force Academy graduate from Las Vegas, is also the first female demonstartion pilot on a military high-performance jet team, Air Force spokesman Maj. Vic Hines said. The F-15E pilot just returned from deployment in Southwest Asia. The 2006 Thunderbirds, whose six pilots fly F-16s, will begin training in the fall. Malachowski, 30, called her selection "a great privilege."
