Well, you just mentioned 'advantages,' so I'll skip the disadvantages - even the obvious ones.

Here are some advantages:
1) Saves time programming a program - no need to translate anything between different compilers.
2) Saves time by not having to learn multiple programming languages.
3) Saves money - no need to purchase extra site licenses for different compilers.

A better way would be to define a common data format between the programs. Anyway, isn't that what OLE is for?

As a developer, I think a big advantage in using the same language in all applications is that they can all interact with each other. For instance, you can write a customer management program in VB and have it interact with an accounting program also written in VB, perhaps by another programmer.
