you should first mention what year model that you have and specify the amount of oil that you are burning, believe it or not the manufacturers of all vehicles do have a table of oil consumpsion for their products,so when you say slightly you should be more specific, but let me tell you what I know about using the oil that you mentioned, oils and lubricants are there to reduce the engine wear during startup and driving conditions,if you use a weight of oil that is too thick it will adversly affect the preformance ond longevity of your nova,if I were you I will stick with a fuel conserving oil like a 10w 30 and move to a full syntetic oil that has a better suspension property during startup and optimum driving temperature ,a mere suggestion, mobil one syntetic I use mostly but do not expect it to have a drastic change in oil consumption, just reduced engine wear,I hope that I have been of help, good luck, delmy d

20/50 might help since it won't move as easily through the lose clearances. I would not go to a synthetic. You'll just be burning more expensive oil. Look for a good oil addative. At your next oil change replace a quart of oil with something designed to help with burning. That might do the job for you.

I may help a little. If you use the heavier oil in the winter though it could be harder to start your car. Synthetic oil is supposed to be good.

20/50 is too heavy, try running a full synthetic. To fix it properly youll need to change the rings or valve seals, whichever is worn

Not going to help much. Looks like you need a rebuild of the engine, rings, pistons=check compression and blow by.

NO THE ONLY THING THAT WILL IS A REBUILD,AND A VALVE JOB. YOU MIGHT TRY SOME MOTOR UP OR ONE OF THE OTHER PROCUCTS OUT THERE.
