Don't allow them to discourage you. They don't sound like a very supportive and positive group of fellas. The Air Force basic training is a piece of cake. They tear everyone down with their yelling and criticisms and then they build you back up the military way. The Air Force is the easiest physically of all branches. Ranking up is much faster than it probably was when they were in it. The military in any branch will give you training and experience that you will be able to carry with you anywhere and have a career with it. Are you afraid of failing or of SUCCESS. It's a dangerous time to be joining the military so if possible try to get an administrative job. Go into law enforcement if possible that is always a good field to take into civilian land. Wal-Mart will always be there. Get away from the negative people in your life ; they aren't helping you. They sound like they are afraid that YOU will accomplish and be successful at what they were unable to be. Also at 34 you only have about 3 more years of eligibility to join. Make a decision NOW.

Sounds like both your father and brother are verbally abusive - and possibly abusive to you in other ways as well? Don't let them hold you back any longer. If you aren't too weak to live with the two of them and take the crap they are feeding you - then you are not too weak to follow your dream.
Unless you know specifically which branch of the military you want to join - you owe it to yourself to talk to recruiters from each one. Get the facts - find out what type of job and training you might want to pursue. Forget about your age - the military has increased the maximum age requirement for enlistment - and the physical requirements vary by age. If you are generally healthy, without a major impairment such as a congenital heart problem, profound hearing or vision loss, impaired use of a limb, seizure disorder, etc., then you should do fine. Anyone with the desire to get through boot camp can - it is not just physical strength - but attitude as well.
Don't even let them know what you are doing. When you make your decision on where you want to go - tell them 'goodbye' on the day you leave - and don't look back. Your future is up to you.

To be the man, you must live as a man. The military was a great experience for me. I joined when I was 18 and grew up a lot in the time I was there. I saw lots of guys who were considered weak but made it with flying colors, and I saw just as many who were large, strong guys fail out of it. The military doesn't make the man, the man makes the military.

AHAHAHA how could anyone be too weak for the air force? I have known a ton of ppl in the airforce and they are all pretty weak, both mentally and physically. Don't join the air force if you want, but don't join for other reasons because there is no such thing as being too weak for the air force.

my husband is in the military. we had already been married a couple of years before he joined. he was very weak and had no self respect or goals in life before he joined. it was rough for him at first, but now he is a strong determined man who has his priorities straight. military life isnt for everyone, but it made my husband into someone i can respect. plus, there are many health benefits and also the gi bill so you can go back to school, that kind of stuff. besides, if you have always wanted it you should go for it. and if i were you i would join and prove your father and brother wrong, who are they to tell you you cant do it?

Your how old ? You might be too old to join. But go see if they'll take you. it may be your last chance to do what you want and prove everyone wrong. If you have a college education, which I doubt by your employment outlook, that would be the best career move. Too bad you didn't do something about this earlier. you know they pay for your education.
