Turtles can suffer on a number of diseases like:

Shell softening
Eye infections
Respiratory problems
Fungal infections
Constipation
Ear abcess
Wound

Eye-problems---

Symptoms:
The turtle keeps her eyes closed, they are swollen and she refuses to eat. When it is not treated it can lead to permanent blindness. Eyes problems are often a sign something else is wrong. They cab be the first symptom of diseases like shell-softening or other infections which are characterized by a drop of the immune system.

Causes:
These are poor quality of the water, lack of vitamin A and improper care.

Treatment:
The eyes should be treated with diluted boric acid (60/40) or sulfamethiazine. The water in the tank must be kept clean to avoid infections. Give your turtle a reptile vitamin supplement on a regular basis. If you do not see an improvement in 5 days take her to the veterinarian.

I suggest you see the following site for more info.

Any animal that has an eye can experience blindness. The swelling could be caused by anyone factor. Bacteria just inside her shell caused an infection in her eye. She bumped it on something. Call your local vet and find out if you need to bring her in. I don't think she will die. If you were in a lot of pain would you want to eat much? As long as she is eating something she won't die from starvation. But call the vet about the eye.

She might die if you don't do anything. Take her to the vet, or nearest pet shop. Try to clean out the eye as much as possible, she might have something lodged in there. Feed her as often and as much as possible if she deosn't eat, but don't overfeed. She could lose an eye, as these are the same symptoms that my friend had when her hampster was about to lose an eye. She didn't notice the swelling and didn't react fast enough. The results were, well, he lost his eye. Just clean out the eye and search help from a professional.

Swollen eyes can be anything from dirty water to poor diet.

The bad news is that it means there is something wrong with its routine care. The good news is that it usually goes away once you fix the care issue(s).

Try the sites below for GOOD care guidelines and see if following their advice helps:
