Regardless of the answer, I see a strong trend to only give thought (?) to answers that confirm the askers point of view. Why bother asking? Are so many people on this site so insecure with their beliefs that they need constant confirmation of them? I know it is temping to "award" somebody that marches lock-step with your beliefs, but isn't the whole point of asking questions, and recieving answers, to learn? Perhaps modify your interpretation of the world? If not, are you simply practicing mental masterbation?

Best answer is left to the individuals interpetation of the answer to the question, but other variables could interfere with that like mood, weather, how drunk the person is, or just if they are in a rowdy mood put in by some of these hateful responses on some of these question( you know what I mean, you've seen them) The angry crowd, the ones that just want to degrade others, now the comic ones are sometimes worth the vote because they make you laugh but who knows the true Best Answer , The Best Answer Might be not to Answer....lol, Have a great day....

I would say 90% of the time I do but it also depends on the question. If I am asking a question directed at the opposing side for information, I will sometimes put at the bottom that best answer goes to the most rational answer regardless of party.

Btw, it is not mental masturbation for ppl in this section to vote for like minds because this section is very opinionated based. If you said that in the math section or something then it would apply but not when ppl are giving opinions. Because it takes an opinion of an answer to judge the opinionated answer.

I agree with you one hundred percent. And not just for the best answer. Some people do just want 20 other people to say they feel the same way. But I'm too honest and straightforward for that. I tell the truth whether they want to hear it or not. Because two months down the line and they are still going through the same issue, they'll come back to the questions they asked and seek out the truth. So either way it all comes back to me anyway. The truth hurts like hell but it will set you free if you let it.

Personally I would like to think the answer that makes the best points should get the points. I tend to answer questions that are biased against my position so I have to defend or support it. It's too easy to simply say," You are so right." and then get 10 points. I understand what you see and it is frustrating but hey I am only here to make a couple of friends and learn a thing or two.

Yes! I do isn't that the whole point of giving 10 points to somebody?

I won't give them to somebody I disagree with. Well once I think I did but it was only because it was a well informed piece of information.

More often than not, I put answers to a vote, unless someone has a really good point. When I ask questions, I'm not looking for affirmation. I'm looking to see why people feel differently.

No. Not always. For me, it depends on the question. For example, months ago, I asked people why they dislike President Bush so much. The question has since been deleted (apparently I was in violation for "chatting", even though other people do it all the time. I think someone didn't like the fact that I was debunking about 75% of the reasons given!), but I still remember that the person I chose for BA was the one who made me scramble to respond to their allegations. As it is, I was only able to respond to about half of it. It was a truly awesome answer.
Anyway, I digress. As I said, it all depends on my question.

Often it seems that way whether it actually is or not.The best answer is after all the askers choice. If I don't like any of the answers I will delete the question. If there are good answers but none that stand out I let you guys choose.

No i dont. I gave best answer to someone who was the exact opposite of my beliefs. I did this because the question was about bad attitudes and her bad attitude perfectly illustrated what i was wondering about therefore explaining / answering my question.
My questions are not validations of my beliefs or my opinions on something but genuinely things that i dont know or am wondering about. I see plenty of 'statements' Is that perhaps what your question is?

Am I supposed to agree or disagree at this point? People are always looking for confirmation and comparison of their ideas and beliefs. Other times it is refreshing to hear a different perspective, possibly one you haven't considered before.
