Its even a little darker than a tomato... whats up with that?

Nothing to worry about, the tomatoes in the ketchup have been dried before use and herbs, salt and sugar have been added to it. Apart from a certain amount of sugar there is absolutely nothing harmful about ketchup.

They put a lot of sugar and salt in ketchup, that's why it tastes so different. It's also cooked, that may be the reason for the darker color.

First of all it's darker because they cook the tomatoes. Then they are pureed, and vinegar, sugar, and salt are added. Try making it yourself with some fresh tomatoes.

With all the other stuff in it, I'd be surpirsed if there were any tomatoes in it at all! Salt, sugar, etc.
