In the UK we call spiders spiders and Daddy Long legs - Daddy Long Legs.
We have absolutely loads here in Scotland at the moment, it just could be that their are on the increase and that the damp conditions are helping them to breed. It's certainly not down to the warm conditions here.
It would be interesting to find out the real reason for the influx, and not hypothesise between us

Do you mean crane flies? Daddy long legs are actually spiders, but for some uneducated reason people seem to think it is the nickname for crane flies.
And I don't know why either - there are loads in my garden right now.
