OH MY GOD!! ive been trying to get my kids into conker fights and they just dont get it.
they are ready in about another two weeks, the bigger the better, im glad that im not the only one who still feels the need to damage my fingers and knuckles, and has an abundant supply of lonely shoelaces. if you soak in vinegar for about a week they should be good, or you can bake them, about 15mins, but keep watch on them, (dont tell anyone, but my old favourite was clear nail varnish, the other kids didnt have a clue. hahaha!!) i had many a conker crowned champion because of this one

The fruits of this tree resemble those of the (Sweet) Chestnut Tree. They develop in prickly cases, and are ripe in:
September and October - "The Conker Season".
Don’t climb trees to pick them or throw sticks to knock them down, because it’s dangerous, someone could be easily hurt by their hard cases. They will come down when they are ready.

when, and only when, they fall off the tree on their own accord. PLEASE DON'T PULL BRANCHES DOWN TO GET THEM! The 'hardest' conker will be one from last year's crop.
