I've heard this too. I think it has a sting that is unpenetrable to human skin.... I wonder what happens if you eat one... maybe it's too small a quantity... ARE YOU GETTING THE FEELING I'VE STARTED TO ANSWER THIS AND NOW DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?! I hate it when that happens!

If we are talking about British Crane flies, then no it isn't true. Crane flies are not venomous, they have no biting ability and in fact the adults rarely eat at all, and exist only to mate and reproduce. They are completely harmless, non-poisonous, and a very popular food with many animals and birds. Cats love to chase and eat them. Crane fly larvae eat only detritus and plant roots and live underground for far longer than the short life of the adult, which is only about a fortnight. Harmless creatures and an important part of the food chain.

Sounds like another terrorist weapon to add to the list, and a new law against milking Crane Flies.

Yes, it is true.
And no, it has no teeth, or sting, or any method of delivering the poison.
It lost the need for it as its diet changed over millions of years.
Oh, unless it was God, who was just playing a trick on insects.

That is an old wives tale... they don't bite, don't have venom, don't eat mosquitoes and eat nectar.
