Depreciate the value of your home and property on the market?

Depreciate??? Well, an ugly color (walls, carpeting, etc.) would certainly distract from your sell price when you attempt to sell. Other than that most renovations are going to increase the value. Make the place as homey as you can... bright and cheerful colors, home spuns scents, clean and organized environment ... and just whatever image it takes for the buyer to see themselves in your home as being their home.

You said improvements that would depreciate the value, that would mean the value would go down. In that case, painting the house a very ugly color would do the trick...
I'm guessing you want to increase value. Most of the buy back will come from improvements in the kitchen and bath. Also room additions, especially bedrooms.
However, there are many low cost improvements. Such as picking a generally pleasing color, new flooring, spruced up landscaping and generally clean home.

Putting carpet on top of hardwood flooring. Convert your bathroom into a storage. Reduce the square footage of the living area anyway you can. But, why? Why would you spend money to decrease the property value?
