Last night was my first night, and I could only tolerate it for a couple of hours, (not even in a row, just total). I find it hard to breathe out against the pressure once it ramps up to where I need it. Any comments would be helpful.

Don't give up! It may take a few nights, but once you get used to it you will not ever want to sleep without it again. Make sure the mask is not too tight, and do feel free to hit the ramp button anytime you need to. (But now I can't use the ramp because it doesn't give me the pressure I need to open up my breathing!)

A humidifier can help - for some reason it decreases the noise level, at least for me. (For the sake of my spouse I got a small, quiet Puritan-Bennett Goodknight 420, which is far quieter than the one "issued" to me by Apria. They cost a bit over $300 at http://www.cpap.com )

There is an excellent USENET group at alt.support.sleep-disorder - all USENET groups get a lot of spam, but there are a lot of very helpful people on this group - I highly recommend it.

Please don't give up - after a few nights of consistent use, you will feel lots better and have improved heart health as well. Welcome to the "hose heads"!

My dad had 2 cpap machines to use but currently use one as the other one deterates.
However, I would give it a couple of nights to use for a week and go from there of how to use it.

It is very common to acclamate to the pressure but also before giving up you must get in touch with the sleep lab and see if they might be able to lower the pressure..we have to do that quiet often..most important thing to remember is consistency..allow your body to adjust to the treatment..also you can hit the ramp several times to bring you back down..please call the lab and or your doctor and let them know you are having a hard time...good luck

my dad had no trouble with the CPAP machine 10 years ago and still uses one to this day, but my mother can't stand the thing. Different stokes for different folks, right.
