Depends on your radio... does it have a cassette slot?

If so then you can buy an adaptor that slots into you cassette slot...

If you have a CD player then SOMETIMES, they have an additional "AUX" connection on the back - it's a L/R phono socket...

If you have the funds though... The best thing to do is buy an Alpine unit with an iPod adaptor! that way you can control your ipod on the screen of the stereo (even with a touch glide pad thingy!) exactly as you would from your ipod! This is what I've done and its totally wicked!

You can also use an iTrip thing which allows you to send the sound from your iPod via FM signal... This is ok sometimes but when you're in an area that has lots of radio ststions (London is a problem cos there are 100s of pirate stations too) then it doesnt work!

Need more info, got messenger? send me a message there! (nick is the same as here!) :o)

if you want decent quality then dont bother with an itrip or a tape converter - they are both crappy sound quality.

your best bet if you dont mind spending a bit of money is to get an AUX cable fitted - most newish cars have an aux slot in the back of the stereo - its a lead that you can route to your glovebox or somewhere else that enables you to hide and store your ipod. if its an older car you may need to get a new stereo - this wont be much more expensive than getting an aux cable fitted as you can get stereos now for around 100quid that have an aux slot in the front that you can simply plug your ipod into. the best thing about doing it with an aux cable or getting a new mp3 player compatible stereo is that the sound quality is the same or better than CD. itrip and cassette converters really are a waste of money. plus an itrip is illegal and with a tape converter you have a bloody great cable dangling ou the front of your tape player. you cant see the cable if its run form the back of the stereo to the glovebox or armrest.

i had a cable fitted to my stereo for 40 quid and had it run to the armrest cubbyhole - its great!

i had an itrip, and to be honest... C£&P. So i looked at it from a different angle and ended up purchasing a new head unit for the car, it an Alpine 9851ri and it includes a full speed IPOD link, so now my 60gb ipod lives in the glove box and is always charged from the head unit and is fully accessible from the steering wheel controls. The sound quality is awesome, highly recommended.

hope this helps

Try the iTrip, or variations of it. It transmits what you play on your iPod via radio so that you can tune into it on your car stereo. It's cool, but the ones I've seen are prone to interference and reception can be poor.

Harmon Kardon sells a kit that you can hardwire your iPod to, and control via a separate controller that is fixed to the car, and a display screen on the dash. The iPod itself sits out of sight in the glovebox. It's cool, though you may want to think twice about screwing holes in your dash. See the link.

I've got a tape converter - one end of the wire is attached to a tape which just goes in the tape deck and the other end of the wire slots into the headphones bit of your ipod. It's not great, you get a lot of interference and you have to play it really loudly otherwise you can hear it but to be honest for £10 it does me fine and I don't make that many trips to use it anyway.

Buy an Griffin iTrip from w2w.com for £15.99 and postage is free. Make sure you buy the model that plugs into the top of the ipod and not the bottom.

You can buy inline RF FM Modulators that go between your car ariel and your hifi (and you plug the ipod in to that).

This avoids the wireless signal strength issues already mentioned, and ensures a signal better than any FM station.

If you have a cassettdeck its easy , just get a digital tape cassett, with a cable attached to it, and connect the other end to your ipod. works a treat
