It's called linea nigra. It's common in a lot of pregnanies, but some women don't get it. It generally appears in the second trimester, and can last right up until the end of the pregnancy sometimes. It is a dark brownish line that runs down the middle of the tummy, across the belly button and down again.
I don't know what precisely causes it, but I haven't experienced it either in this pregnancy or my last one. All women are different :)
Unless you are referring to stretch marks which are way more common in pregnancy. They are pinkish/reddish lines that can radiate out on a woman's belly, legs, butt or back during pregnancy and doesn't go away until long after the pregnancy is over (dependent on exercise and diet, and application of Vit E products).

Some women get a dark line running down from their belly button - it's a pigmentation line but, unlike stretch marks, it goes once the baby's born.

This is called Linea Nigra and can sometimes be hairy too! Most woman get it although I never did until after I had given birth. I think it is to do with hormaone and the skin stretching. Dont worry though it does dissapear. I was able to wash mine off a bit like dead skin after you have been out in the sun! Most pregnancy books or sites should have something about it.

It's called linea nigra...a dark line running from the belly button down. Lots of women get it, and it goes away after birth. I haven't gotten it with either of my pregnancies...but I've always assumed it was because I am really fair skinned (can't get a tan...only sunburn) since it has to do with your skin's pigmentation.

It is called a linea negra, and just as it comes along, it goes away after a few months. I had a boy 4 months ago and the line has almost completely disappeared. No stretch marks (lucky cow, I know :)))

Called Linea Nigra. It's occasionally seen as part of pregnancy, like the pregnancy mask (raccoon mask) that some women get. Usually goes away after birth. Caused by higher levels of melanin in the body.

It's the linea nigra...or commonly known as the "brown line"...I'm not sure what exactly causes it but it is just a darkening of the skin pigment down the center of her stomach...it usually goes away a couple weeks after delivery...

I think its called a LINEA NIGRA.....caused by, i think, partly hormonal and the fact that your muscles seperate during pregnancy. It is perfectly normal, and is more prevailant in darker haired people. Or are you talking about stretch marks, which are red to purple in colour, if so, these will become less noticable after pregnancy and will fade to a silvery colour.

I know what you are mean like a faint brown line (not a stretchmark) I thnk it has something to do with increased levels of hormones and chemicals in the skin. My sister-in-law got brown patches all over her face and arms (like liver spots) when she was preggers. They do fade after pregnancy just one of the many weird things that happens to a pregnent women.
