I like uncommon names - unique to the extent of not being made fun of, not having to explain and correct all ones life, and not funny spelling since it sounds the same anyway. I also think a "unique" name should have a sensible middle name or nickname - just in case the child doesn't like it when they are older; for example: My niece is Cynthianna but at 7 won't acknowledge it and goes by Hanna. My daughter is Clarina and goes by Chloe. Any way here are some of my suggestions:

Katarina (Karli)
Amalia (Amy, or Lia)
Samira
Katiana

Boys are harder because unique names for boys end up popular for girls later. Just think Terry, Stacey, Tracy, Kelly, and many more started out as boy's names and now Aidan, Avery, and Taylor are going to girls too- I went for strong names that would sound professional when they got older even though they are common: Richard Alexander and Zachary James. Go to this site and it will tell you the 1000 most popular names in America and if you enter a name tell you its ranking. Then you can avoid or aim for whatever it is you want: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/

When you say "unique baby name," you do understand that means that no one else on the whole planet will have the same name you've given your child, yes?

Therefore, it does not make sense to look at any of those "baby name" websites, because it's possible that other people may have selected and used the various names listed there - thus rendering them "un -unique," if you get my drift.

So, use your own imagination and try to come up with a combination of letters that will in all probability be unmatched by anybody else trying to name their child.

If it's a boy, try, say, Miktolazarus (kids will call him Mike for short!).

If it's a girl, try, say, Katyadora (kids will call her Kate for short!).

(If you do a Yahoo search right now for "Miktolazarus" or "Katyadora" you will find there is no match, so it is quite possible that no one on the planet is yet so named...)

Good night, and good luck! Col. Kurtz

babynames.com is a good place to look. I've been on there before and they have some very unique names and they also list the meaning and country of origin of the name.

well my suggestion..........and what i want to use is to either take a family name........somthing that has a lot of meaning and use that. or alternativly use an annagram from yours and your partners name........obviously within reason.
my husbands father id disceased and i thought it would be a lovely thing to do, to use his name in an annagram for a little girl.
i have told no body of this before.......as i dont want to jinx the chances of having a girl. hence the reson i am not saying his or her name x

Girls:

Ruby
Heidi
Evelyn
Maanika (pronounced Monica) meaning ruby (my own name)
Lucy or Lucille, meaning bringer of light
Lacey or Lacy
Estrella (pronounced estraya)
Ava
Lola
Scarlet
Brooke
Victoria
Desiree

Boys:

Martin
Jay
Gavin
Kevin
Artin

and its best not to name your children something from the top 50 list because then people at school will end up calling them Emma B. or Jacob F. (not that they are bad names. they are quite nice in fact)

congrats! let me know what you name him/her!
