Sounds like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You need to get into counseling. Don't let the freak who attacked you continue to have this power over you. You can get past this. Sometimes we all need a little help to move past the really ugly parts of life.

Since you don't go into detail about the attack, it's difficult to answer. Did this attack happen recently? Were you hurt, robbed? I would strongly suggest that you report this to the police, then make an appointment to see a therapist as soon as possible. These "flashbacks" won't go away on their own, you need to confront what happened to you, and find a way to deal with it with the help of a trained therapist. Friends can be there for support, a shoulder to lean on, but see a professional for some real help. Whether or not you tell your friends should depend upon how well you think they can handle the news themselves, and right now, you've got enough to deal with, without having to worry about how a friend will take this news. Please seek help as soon as possible so the healing can begin.

Your post was rather vague in explaining what happened to you. I assume that whatever kind of attack it was left you with some emotional trauma. Talking about these problems with friends and family is highly recommended. It will be much easier to overcome these 'flashbacks' if you start dealing with them now, rather then 10 years from now when it's too late. If you'd like to discuss your situation with me I would be happy to give you more advice. For now all I can say is talk to family & friends and do your best to confront what happened to you Now, not later.

Tell someone you trust. Then, maybe go see a counselor or just try to forget, (i know that may not work) If it is making you depressed then maybe you should get on some kind of depression medication.

If it interferes with your friendships then yes I'd tell them so they understand, aside from that, it's personal and no I would not.
