Given that I get paid by the NHS, and the NHS is funded by taxpayers, does it not seem a bit redundant that I have to pay tax? I am, in a sense, paying myself.

No, it is not redundant.
Because not everybody gets the same wages in NHS, people who earn more must pay more.

As for the fact NHS is funded by tax payers it is a long way from tax payers wallets to Government grants to NHS.

That is why we have accountants and lawyers and revenue collectors and policy makers who just come in between the farmers own grown wheat and his mouth.

Ah, no wonder you have so much time on your hands!

I think the same thing about the police. I pay loads of f*cking tax for the police and what do they do? occasionally they might get lucky and a crime will happen exactly where they are standing so they have a chance of catching them

Returning to your plight. Just stop paying the tax, and demand payment in kind rather than actual money, you know, a free liver here or there, maybe a pancreas...sell it on the black market and pay no taxation

Robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak. But you're not alone - ALL government workers and employees of institutions either partially or totally funded by the government (and that would include city, state, county and federal government) are in the same boat.
Actually, we (more or less) all are - since the taxes we pay go (at least theoretically) towards providing us with services that make our lives easier.

If the Government were to pay you 22% less say they would'nt need all those jobs in Inland revenue to work out how much money you owe and to collect it. So those jobs could be scrapped and maybe the government could give you a rise on the money it's saved.
Come to think of it all tax should be scrapped and if money is needed to build a new hospital say the Government should just just print it.

Hmm.. yeah it is.. but I guess that the most reasonable solution would be that you would make a little less money, and didn't have to pay taxes.. that the money does not have to go in and right back out.. but that would be very complicated dealing with all deductions and everything.. it is complicated, but at the same time helps money to circulate..
