i agree if the animal is well looked after and maybe there is a reason we need to keep it locked up ...

A well-run zoo is a great place for people and animals. Animals in a zoo don't have to worry about being torn apart and eaten by other animals, they get free food and free top-rate health care. Sounds like a great deal to me!
Visit the San Diego Zoo in my hometown. It's awesome.

Zoos are so much different than they used to be. They are research facilities as well as reserves. There are indeed some species found at zoos that no longer live in the wild because they were over-hunted (the addax comes to mind). We really enjoy going to the zoo, and we learn so much.

yes i think zoos should exist! Not only do they protect endagered species they help promote their existence through breeding programmes etc. A visit to the Zoo is a great experience for adults and children alike.

I think it is important so to educate children and give people the chance to see animals they may never get the chance to see. but i also think it is only right if it is in say a safari park where the animals have alot of space to roam freely not caged.

I always say to people "Go into a public toilet.Lock the door. Now imagine that you have to spend the rest of your life in there". Is this a nightmare or what? So sad to see birds in cages cheeping to their free flying friends. So sad to see gorillas in concrete cells swinging on tyres. No this is not for their own good, other answerers, YOU try it for the rest of your life. We were supposed to be an enlightened world by now and we are more monstrous than ever to gape at these creatures, then go on our merry way while they remain stuck there in their misery. I wish I could help all of them....

For some animals its all they know, its the difference between survival and death, hunters are making some animals totally extinct and zoos are keeping this from happening.

All people do not move to every other place to see various type of animals. May be the common types need not be kept.
