Racist academic could create more racist thugs than a racist thug could do alone.
However, a racist academic could not take out a racist thug by himself, yet a racist thug could take out many racist academics.
So it is one of those circular situation where they balance each other out in different ways.

While a racist thug would be more dangerous to any specific victim he/she chose to vent his/her hatred upon (and, if you were that victim, it might not be easy to be as objective about it as I'm being), a racist academic is probably much more dangerous, simply because he/she has a "respected forum" from which to try to spread his/her twisted notions and, potentially, to influence and indoctrinate hundreds, perhaps thousands, of students, some of whom, being young and impressionable, could be swayed by such idiocy.
A racist academic could produce many racist thugs - and perhaps some more racist academics.

Unless the academic wields great influence I would say the thug is more dangerous. Because the thug will be the source of more sadness and misfortune in peoples lives as he terrorizes and steals to satisfy his own needs.

I say an academic. Thugs can be easily arrested. Academics get to say whatever they want on a six-figure income and can't be touched.

Racist academic because they can convince the upper levels of society using their intellectual ability which would immediately bring them respect and a listening ear.They can stir and convince many to action with words and fair speeches!!!!!
