Speaking as a switcher and still a PC user, I won't try to fluff you with reasons to believe that it will be candy perfect when you switch.

However, now is as good as time as ever to consider switching. The transition to intel chipsets is complete, developers are shipping out Universally compatible binaries for both Intel/PPC computers. And when Vista ships, you're pretty much guaranteed you won't have enough hardware power on your current computer as is to fully appreciate Vista or it's seven different versions.

If you buy one, you can stick to using both for a while and eventually you'll find you can wean yourself off completely off a windows machine in time. There's plenty of software available, retail and free and open source. The only reason why I'd advise against switching is if you have programs you NEED to have available that are only available on windows, like customized software for work if you do that sort of thing.

But if you're going to buy the 20", I'd reccomend you just splurge a little more for the 24"... it's a few hundred more, but the additional 4" inches of screen and space you get is more than worth it. In fact, it's getting to the point where it's actually more cost effective to buy a 24" iMac than it is to buy a Dell with the same features.

Speaking of cost, Macs retain their value much better over time than a PC does. A couple of year old PC can drop from a grand to $200 in very short time, but sometimes you'll find that older imacs or emacs or minis are only maybe 50-100 cheaper 2 years after they were first sold brand new.

If you have any questions about software or anything, you're more than welcome to fire me an e-mail.

Get the iMac! You'll be glad you did. If you start out using the iMac for some tasks and your PC for others, it won't be long before you find yourself just using the iMac. Most people are so happy with their Macs they can't figure out why they didn't switch earlier.
