Do you agree with this.

My reason for this idea is that English footballs BIG teams are bringing in to many foreigners.
The scottish teams have learned from this mistake, now more Scottish teams are developing there own youth accadamies.

Scottish football is awful.Rangers and Celtic have too much of a monopoly.Hearts have a few quid now so might become a big player for awhile.but the rest of the league teams are crap,so the top teams don,t play top opposition often enough, and the small clubs don,t have enough support or money to expand.so there is no chance of Scottish football ever even getting close to english, let alone over-taking it!!

in 5 years i think it,s a good possibility that the top teams will join the english league,or that maybe there might even be a british premier league, contested between the top 5 teams from Scotland and England!!

i would like to see Gretna carry on their great rise from osbscurity and get in the Scots prem next year!

Can understand your reasonoing, but unfortunately do not agree. There is not one club in scotland who would not love the benefits that the premier league teams get from sky tv rights. Celtic recieved nearly 2 million pounds for the start of this season, premier league teams reveived 14 million each.
That enables all the premier league teams to entice top names into thier respective squads.
Celtic recently played Man Utd at old trafford, and no-one can doubt how well they played, however the question remains that they would not be able to raise there game every week and compete in the premier league.
If celtic where in the prem league this season i honestly believe they would be fighting a relegation battle with the players they have in thier squad.
The premier league money would of course benefit them, but hey do not get the finances that the English teans do, and therefore they will struggle over the course of a season.
On a one off game, any team can perform above there normal level to achieve a result, but not over the course of 38 games. Ask yourself whether they would play the way they did the other night on a midweek game away to the likes of Bolton.. That does not mean i belittle the level of scottish football, i just think that a successful football team needs a great manager, financial benefits and great players. Its doubtful whether you would achieve success unless you have all three.
In five years time, the gap between the premier leaague in ngland and the prem in Scotland will not decrease, and consequently there will always be the north/south divide.
Sorry, but this is reality

Look at where the money is in football. It's in the English Premier League. So, even though the Scottish academies may produce good young talent, I reckon a lot of the best ones would still get taken by English clubs. However, a consistently higher standard of young Scottish players may reduce the current gap between the English and Scottish national teams.

I'm not quite sure how you can justify saying that Scotland has learnt from is problems with still the big three Hearts, Rangers and Celtic, predominantly made up of foreign stars not deemed good enough for the premiership or just plain has beens. England has never forgotten its youth set-up.

Out of the big four, Chelsea have probably produced the least amount of players as far as i can remember in recent history. But apart from that, the English side is never short of young talented players, one look at the under 21's will show you that.

So in answer to your question, i feel that it is irrational to believe that Scotland will be better than England in 5 years. This mainly because English football knows how to work its youth policy and rather than the Scots being better, it is merely a case of playing catch-up for now. Maybe 25 years!

I'm Scottish and there is no doubt that English football is far superior. You only have to look at the difference in class of players. If Scottish football had the same amount of money it would be a different ball game altogether. @ P.T.F.C. - the question was about comparing English football with Scottish football not English players.

I am afraid it will not happen even in 50 years. Even the big two Celtic and Rangers are hard up so what chance do the remainder of the clubs have..I disagree that the scottish teams have learnt from the mistake of having two many foreigners in their sides. Their are plenty of foreign players in the Celtic and Rangers sides. The teams may produce the odd decent Scottish player but not enough to have a strong national side.I have to say I am against so many foreign players in teams in England as well. Arsenal may play good football but it is a disgrace that they have put out a team in the past with not a single Englishman in it. Scotland will continue to have the odd success in international games but there is no strength in depth to succeed on a regular basis. Good luck to them in any event.

I would love to agree with you but Scotland's clubs are still not doing enough to develop youngsters. Hearts have mostly Lithuanians in their team and while it is great for the Scottish game to see a challenge to the Old Firm the only benefit is for Lithunia. Look at the recent signings of Rangers and Celtic. They are still buying foreigners but they are shopping in the bargain basement of the market where the English clubs dont go. At the end of the day we the fans are also to blame. Can you imagine the support of either Rangers or Celtic putting up with a team full of Scots who did nothing in Europe for a few seasons. I cant and it will take SPL intervention to limit the number of foreigners in a team before we will see any change in the National team.

i truly believe that you have lost the plot, unless you are talking about the English division 2. Scottish football is hanging on by its finger tips take away the only 4 teams with any support (Rangers,Celtic ,Hibs ,and Hearts) and what are you left with ,matches played in nearly empty grounds to a standard not much better than park football. You talk about academies but where are the Scottish players in Europe's premier leagues, 1 decent result in Europe and you think you can take on the world and by decent result i mean Celtic losing to man united, remember any team can raise its game in a cup competition exeter drew 0-0 at old trafford ,does that mean they will win the champions league?

I think the fact that Gretna can rise from English non-league to the Scottish Cup final and the verge of the Scottish Premier league in 5 years suggests the opposite

One of reasons why the National English team is not successfully anymore, is because many foreigner are part of English local teams. In the past, only British players played in the English teams, so all the British Teams were strong. Now, Henry beat the England, not the France, and it means England beat England. Do you see how strong are now African teams? All they're players play in Europe... So the Scotland is in a right way, and I hope the national team of Scotland soon will be very strong. Good luck to them...
