Check with the Compaq web site. (Actually the HP web site as they now own Compaq). Most of the Aramada series uses a standard size laptop hard drive, but they came inside a non-standard size enclosure. (Sorry, but I have not worked specifically on an M300. The site I support only had M700). So you would have to either get a drive from Compaq already in the enclosure, or get a professional to look at it. The encoulsures can be opened and the hard drive swapped. I have upgraded many of the Aramada's. I own two M700s that are currently running on 60gig drives. And an older Armada 7800 on a 20gig.

Yes you can. The older P3's are really dated and very slow as compared to today's laptops. I recently got rid of my old P3 850 MHz Dell and got a newer one that really smokes. Didn't get a new one though. Instead I bought a refurbished Dell Inspiron that's great & it didn't cost me an arm & a leg.
Be warned, if you replace your HD, you'll lose everything. You can back up your needed files or you can buy a 'hard drive enclosure' from eBay and use you old HD as a backup (via a USB port), thus keeping your files intact.
