About 15% of your monthly salary...

If you didn't already have a baby then I would have said that an engagement ring should be at least the value of 2-3 months salary. My first engagement ring was 1/4 carat and very plain. I have been married a long time and on my 10th anniversary was presented with a 2 carat ring. Look out for feathering which will appear just like it sounds like there is ashy gray feathers in it also black dots. Make sure you look at it in good lighting. Anywhere you want to go is fine. Zales stores are all over the place and you can upgrade at anytime. At this point I would spring for matching wedding bands and get the engagement ring later. With a new baby I am sure you have tons of new expenses. Your fiancee will be pleased with whatever you give her. Your best bet would be to find out what "cut" she favors. The cut of the ring can also influence the price of the ring. Princess cuts, emerald cuts, marquis cuts, are just a few of the more expensive ones. Friedman's usually carries nice traditional cuts like the rounds.

1st thing to think about is the budget i don't need to tell u how much u need to decide then about diamonds the most important thing the 4C's cut, color, clarity, carat. a whole diamond has more value and is really the best option something in maybe a 1/3 to 1/4 carat solitaire setting remember that a engagement ring can be past on from generation to generation and if u get a good engagement ring u don't need to buy another wedding ring just add a beautiful band so make a wise choice and lastly ask some1 at the store to advise u. good luck

For starters a ring should cost your three months salary. SO if you make $1600 a month, you should pay $4800. But at the same time $1600 is good enough for a nice ring, we're not celebraties here. When buying diamond you have to look for the 4 c's Carat, clarity, cut, and color.

Why not visit a local jeweler and tell them you are not quite up to par on what is or is not a good value when it comes to diamonds and engagement rings. They should be able to provide you with that information. You can also do research on the internet as well.

It also depends on how much money you can spend on an engagement ring. With a bit of disposable income, you certainly would be able to purchase a high quality and larger diamond.

You get what u can afford first of all especially with a baby to take care of u dont want to go overboard on a ring payment that may take away from her needs as she is now the most important thing in your life..so dont go over board.. When u go into the jeweler look for a ring that seems to stand out to u, there will be one that just seems to call your name... remember what kind of girl you have, does she like big rings or small rings, has she ever mentioned what kind of cut of diamond she likes.. as far as round, tear ect.. does she like white gold or yellow gold?? but know that no matter what ring u get her, she's going to love it, because its you she loves.. not the ring itself.. Good luck and i hope u have a good way to propose.. something she'll remember for the rest of her life..

the tradition is to spend 2 months salary. go to a website for diamond sales and they will have alot of information on what type of ring you want.
I'd say that the color is the most important thing. You want the letter the closest to the beginning of the alphabet you can afford.....usually anything that's a G or less.

An engagement ring should come from the heart.... If your wife to be is only worried about the money you spend on her... Or how big it is... Then she is not worth having.... I would rather have a simple gold band and know the man I am going to marry loves me more then life its self.. Then to have all the diamonds in the world.....

Seriously,, they say the 2 monthes salary thing,, but if you really want to get educated about things like that,, just go to the Mall or jewelers and talk to someone about diamonds. You will get alot of information and usually they don't pressure you too much to buy right there,,

A ring is just a piece of jewellery. Get the nicest one you can comfortably afford. A reputable jewellery store should be able to help. Personally, mine cost $800 13 years ago. It's a 1/3 carat and I love it because my husband gave it to me, not 'cause of how much it's worth or how big it is.

i think you should expect to pay about 2 grand.... And try for a least a half carat... id like to say size of the diamond doesn't matter but really... you dont want her friends and family to laugh either.... lol and get a beautiful setting that reflects her style.... something that shows you pay attention and care... not just any ring out of the case.... Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!
